The play was written by Malcolm MacDonald during the five years he lived and taught in Guadalajara, Mexico.  It features three original songs by Diego Flores. Directors love the play because of the flexible cast size and the brisk, contemporary theatrical style.  Teachers love the Mexican and Native American setting that makes the story more meaningful for their students than Dickens' 19th century England.

The great Native American folk hero, Coyote, introduces Scrooge to Mariposa,
The Ghost of Christmas Past, who takes him back to his village in Michoacán, Mexico. Then Venado, The Ghost of Christmas Present, shows him the other side of the tracks in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  Finally, Scrooge comes face to face with La Llorona who shows him a terrifying vision of a possible Christmas in the future.
